Speed Stacks

Here are some first graders working on their Speed Stacking. Not a lot of speed was going on here, we were just working on our stacking. Students are required to use listening skills, follow directions and be able to determine their left from right.

We are starting to speed stack this week. Check out this Speed Stack clip.

Ghost Busters

"Ghost Busters" was a crowd favorite. Everyone had a partner that was supposed to push them around the cones on a scooter.

SpongeBob Days

This week we are playing all kinds of SpongeBob related games. The students love SpongeBob and all his Bikini Bottom friends. We are having Krabby Patty relays, jelly fishing in Jelly Fish Lane & Krab walking all week.

One of the 1st games was a Krabby Patty Relay. Students put on an "oven mitt" & used a "spatula" to scoop a patty from the grill & run it down to their plate.

Time to catch some jellyfish!
These 3 are jelly fishers waiting to catch jellyfish in Jellyfish Field.

Track & Field

This week is all about track & field events. We started the week learning how to pass a baton during a relay race. We practiced this event a couple of days. The following pictures are of students during the hurdles event. Some of the classes have already learned and practiced the Shot-Put (we are using a softball). All the classes will have learned how to pass the baton, jump hurdles and throw a Shot-put by the end of the week. We will review all these events next week and add discus throwing. Again, it is a modified discus, not the real thing.

Speed Stacks

Cups aren't just for drinking out of anymore. I'm starting a Speed Stacks club at lunch recess. We met after lunch today to practice our skills. The following students watched the video last week. We currently don't have a lot of cups, so I can only take a few kids at a time. I will work on trying to get more cups throughout the school year. Keep visiting the blog for additional pictures.

Recess Games

All the classes are currently learning how to play a variety of recess games. Games such as 4 square, hopscotch, hula hoop activities, and many more. Our class always begins with a warm up to get our heart rate up. We then learn/play an activity and then end with a cool down & stretching.
